Hello everyone,
got it
Thanks Bulat!
Best regards!
you was quick! seems that you are the second half of people that watch this package on SF? (the first half is myself)
Well ... I got it too now. It seems downloads are not instantly counted when reloading a sourceforge page.
Thanks.![]()
i was meant people watching the package using appropriate SF feature. but then i realized that most of us just subscribed to RSS Feed of new releases. 19 downloads in first hour, during sunday night - not bad. downloads was significantly raised after it was tested in MFC![]()
Thanks Bulat!![]()
Hello everyone,
Yeah! A little quicker and I travel back in time!Originally Posted by Bulat Ziganshin

To be honest: it happened by accident...
Maybe some kind of telepathics...?
Back to the roots: since there were no changes in compression, I think feedback (e.g. tests) will come rarely. But interesting new features!
Best regards!
i've edited SF web site http://freearc.sourceforge.net/ to a more or less useful form
Thanks Bulat!I have added it to my list of compression sites.

Thanks Bulat, FreeArc almost pushed away WinRAR+7-zip combo from my computerLooking forward to the "algorithm chosen depending on file contents" feature!
are you read russian forum?Originally Posted by Black_Fox

No, haven't been reading it for quite a bit of time.. but it's written in FreeArc's site in introduction amongst other planned changes![]()

Hello everyone,
arc.exe x arc.arc -> extracts like a charm (57 files) using Arc.exe prerelease 4
Double click on arc-gui -> nothing! no flickering or anything
Edit: downloadsize: 3188506 Byte
WinXP-Home (SP3 release candidate 1) 512 MB RAM
Best regards!

Not everything with "GUI" in it's name is a full-featured filemanager
Thank you for putting me back in place!
I've noticed the missing "pre-release" ...
a.arc (as a result of the above command-line is 3146302)
Best regards!

Bug?
show output with "-di" option added. i guess that you have 3+ gigs of memory and can help me to debug such situations. pre-3 was ok?Originally Posted by vvvyg

well, Matt and vvvyg, please try with -mppmd:1536m instead of -mx. does it work?
Hi,
I noticed that freearc 3 versions, (3.6), start up under older windows versions.
And a TotalCommander 7x still works under windows all. Freearc has a plugin for TC.
So I wonder if you would want to make FA40 compatible at some point.
For now 40 versions give error message:
"ARC.EXE file is linked to missing export KERNEL32.DLL:OpenThread."
Thanks for the christmas gift.![]()
even better - with "-di -di+$#"Originally Posted by vvvyg

i never thought that 0.36 was win9x compatible! can you please give us a screenshot? if its true, i will install it and look into problems. probably, lzma multithreading support is the problem. try -m2 and -m3t compression modes - are they ok?
anyone who see problems with using pre-4 in -mx mode: try http://www.haskell.org/bz/arc-2g.7z
if it will work correctly, i will know how to fix the problem
wanna test linux-version?
http://www.haskell.org/bz/arc-linux-gui.bz2
afaiu, it need gtk2 installed to work
I tested FreeArc with -mppmd:1536m which also fails the same way, even though I have 2 GBIt works up to 1012m but fails at 1016m. Also it fails for -m8. On -m7 it compresses enwik8 but fails on enwik9.
Also, if I leave off the last "m" like -mppmd:1012 then an unhelpful error dialog pops up.
I have a preliminary entry on the large text benchmark. (It is less than 30 days old so not in the main table yet). The best result I found was -mppmd:1012m: o13:r1 but maybe you know some better options. I tuned the o13 parameter on enwik8. I'm not sure what r2 does (besides make compression worse) because there is no equivalent option for ppmd.
