Hi!

I felt inconvenienced by this forum's features, so now
experimenting with mirroring it to a newsgroup.
The main idea is to be able to receive the new messages
via mail and quote/answer the message in the preferred mailer
(though maybe I'll still have to copy/paste the new message
into post form manually), also to have a proper search etc.

Btw, I also made a forum dump converter into netscape/mozilla
mail format (which also probably can be imported by other mailers),
so accepting requests for the copy.

Though guess I'll have to drop it and reupload from scratch,
as I found a bug in message conversion and there was much
fun with google's spam detection so some messages are missing.
But anyway ideas on what can be improved/changed are welcome.

Thanks, though I had to somewhat change my parser because of that.

Meanwhile, I finally made a working newsgroup/mailing list or whatever
it is out of this forum.

That is, its now possible to subscribe to it and receive all the
new messages via email, or RSS feed (google supports that).
My script is refreshing it every 5 minutes and sends any updates
to googlegroups.

Also, it looks like googlegroups allows to join only with gmail
address, so the only way I found is to send me (shelwien at gmail.com)
a message so I&#039;d be able to directly register any other address.

Just tried importing it with TheBat and it was successful via
"Import Messages/From UNIX Mailboxes".
6437 messages or something. That&#039;s not a totally complete archive,
about 10-20 are missing because of bugs in my converter, but
its enough, I think.

They do that all the time. You&#039;d have to press "Not Spam" a couple of times. But its a "feature" of gmail, not googlegroups, so I can
switch it to some other email of yours, if it bothers you .

Started to wonder why there&#039;re no new messages, opened the forum
and found that there _are_ messages, but my server (84.202.38.64)
got banned from encode.ru. Its no problem, but pushing 106 messages
through googlegroups _was_ a problem, &#039;cause it bans emails after
50 sequential posts.

So, Ilya, if you don&#039;t like this, or think that 5min refresh is too
frequent, please explicitly say so, as I have access to quite a lot
of different ips and it&#039;d be troublesome to ban them all.

These days I have a tiny amount of spare time - too many work!

You can help me, if you read the miniBB manual/FAQ and post what I should do. Mostly, the forum works in Default mode (just small number of settings of this forum was changed). If it provider related thing tell me what to say to my host provider.

I hope you understand that the most time will be taken to find what&#039;s going on... And Like I said I have no time... New Year - hot time for artists, theatres and all show biz stuff...

As to width, you can simply fix it in the CSS file:
"WIDTH: 80%;" - I think you can remove all of that.
(bb_default_style.css)

As to ip ban, guess your hosting did it. It even blocks
access to ns1/ns2.netplace.ru now. But whatever, I already
fixed my script anyway, so it works.

Nope! WIDTH is about frame width - not code. (just tested)
