Why? i.e. in precomp readme:

So when/if you bundle all precomp files with yours freearc and write clear explanation it should be legal.
For me this bundling and complete english doc is most important.

strictly speaking, its illegal to distribute via SF any program without sources. i think that it will be legal to distribute such archive via some other server (if it will include original archives of precomp, ppmonstr and other programs, not only executables we actually need)

definitely! can you please also test it on XP loaded without /3g flag?

btw, i will ask Igor why he disabled 128mb dict. this will shed some light..

Took me 5 seconds took look through the Russian docs and download the programs myself, it's not a big issue imo.

No, I dont think so too
but... ->
who will look into docs in a language he doesnt speak / cannot read?
@ Bulat:
could you consider to make a little txt-file with the links and put it into your distribution-package for the interested audience which maybe is not so firm in using search-engines by themselves?
I know you are working on english docs, just as an interim

Best regards!

True, but all it'll take is a quick readme with links to the correct locations in, but of course the english docs will be done for the next version(?) so shouldn't be too much of issue, it is still beta afterall and generally at this stange only people who have any real interest in compression will be using it in anger.

You said you added the ability to use more than 2GiB of RAM in pre4, so, yes, its probably why it worked before and not anymore. But Im not that sure that its only a problem with your code, because by default XP32 doesnt allow a program to allocate more than 2GiB, 3GiB with the /3GB switch and (theorically) up to 4GB with the /PAE switch.

It fails with pre4, Core2 Quad, 3GiB RAM, XP32 /3GB

Have you tried limiting the mem used for compression to see if that makes any difference?

ie –lc25% or -lc50% ?

gui version fails after a few operations performed. its especially sad because one (and only) its distinctive feature - baility to queue operations and perform them sequentially in background. anyway, wait a few days for next demo

its just one linking switch (--large-address-aware) and it is exacty what ive disabled in 0.40a. so its not source of problem (or at least not only it). the most probable source of problem may be wininet.dll, please try the version without it:

on dialup, it needs several minutes to upload file of this size. you was too fast

well, now i see that problem is wininet. i will think now how to completely diable it when it not used. btw, this version is unoptimized compile so it will be slow for large number of files. if you or someone else really need it, i will compile it with -O2 and reupload

i've compiled optimized versuion of fa without wininet library. jope it will solve all problems on 3+ gb memory configs
http://www.haskell.org/bz/arc040-no-http.7z

in the next version, i will probably just replace wininet with curl

its just linked in. but seems that its enough. well, wininet library turned out to be the worsest lib i ever used. programming with it was nigtmare and even after it then it give me 2 bugs with memory usage!!

Bulat, maybe you should move internet functions to a separate process and interact with it using stdin/stdout?

using curl would be a better idea. its already used on linux, i should just compile the library on windows with only ftp/http support and incorporate it into the program

i prefer look of http://flashmobile.ru/arc/eng/

it seems that wArc and my WinArc will be the same pair as jZip/7-zip - one beautiful and user-friendly while second more techies-oriented

Giorgio Tani also works on integration of fa support into PeaZip. so next month we will get no less than 3 GUI shells for fa

users of boxes with 3-4gb - please test no-http versions (see below) in -m8/-m9 modes

update: i've deleted 7z archive because now its contents is included in arc.arc

Hello everyone,

still I'm away from home (tomorrow I'll be back in place ), so I couldn't have a closer look at WinArc. But since I noticed the "arc050" in the above link -> wArc seems to use not arc.exe, so does WinArc? Will there still be a commandline-version in future or will you concentrate on dll's for better integration into GUis.
I suppose -> commandline.exe because of compatibility with other OS than Win XXX !?

Best regards!

http://www.haskell.org/bz/arc.arc is again a full package of FreeArc 0.50 test version. it includes no-http versions which lacks ftp/http accees but should have no problems on boxes with 3-4gb of memory. so please download and test them

there is also a small number of other updates, most notably fixed crashing after performing several operations

wArc includes arc.exe in its distribution and uses it. the same will be true for PeaZip, although i think that they both will switch to using WinArc.exe in order to provide graphical progress indicator for their users

i continue to provide cmdline+gui version for Win+Linux plus sources. freearc is still open and free
